LIMERICK ROSE: Hopefully the pale moon will be rising over Dromlohan in Kilcornan in August when Anthony O'Gara, Chairman of the Tralee Rose Festival will announce Kayleigh Maher, our Limerick Rose, as the new Rose of Tralee. Daughter of John and Una, Dromlohan, Kilcornan, Kayleigh, who is on the final stages of completing her Masters at N. U. I. Galway has been selected to represent Limerick in the Rose of Tralee for 2017. A keen sports woman with her main interest being horse riding, she also likes to travel, We know Kayleigh will be an ideal representative for Limerick. To mark the occasion, the Community Council will host a reception on this Friday evening June, 30 at 8pm in the Community Centre, firstly, to congratulate Kayleigh and secondly to wish her the very best of luck in the Rose selection process. All are welcome to come along and enjoy the evening. Best wishes Kayleigh. Refreshments of all sorts will be available on the evening.
NICOLA DORE: Nicola Dore, from Kilcornan, has recently qualified for the World Para Powerlifting Championships in Mexico which will be held later this year and she needs to self fund to cover her costs. To raise funds Nicola will have a bucket collection and bag packing day in Twohig's Supervalu Askeaton on July, 7 from 9.30am-8pm. The ultimate goal is to help raise money for Nicola Dore Para Powerlifter Road to Toyko 2020. Nicola recently competed for Ireland in the Para Powerlifting World Cup in Hungary where she successfully qualified for the World Championships in Mexico City in September 2017. All International competitions are self funded and this is where she needs your support to help get her to Mexico. Shannon Estuary Mud Search and Rescue: We are pleased to announce that we will be hosting our 3rd Annual Clay Pigeon Shoot on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Rosemount Shooting School in Cappagh. The event is to raise funds for Shannon Estuary Mud Search and Rescue for their effort to maintain operations, training and equipment. This will be an Open Competition for Pro and Novice Entries. Shannon Estuary Mud Search and Rescue carry out urban, rural land and Shoreline searches. We have trained Swift water flood first responders / technician along with Mud Rescuers. We assist in searches under the direction of the statutory emergency services All of our members are trained and competent to carry out their role as required. We are on call 24/7/365 and we are all volunteers. We fundraise to cover the unit running cost of equipment and training. We do not receive any government funding and we are not affiliated with another search and rescue unit in the Shannon Estuary and are registered with revenue as a non profit group and also with the charity regulatory authority of Ireland.
