Kilcornan Notes - Nov 2

LOTTO: The Kilcornan lotto results for Saturday October 31. There jackpot was not won. Lucky dip winners were Daniel McDonagh, Padraig Fitzgerald, Siobhan McCarthy and Sean O'Shaughnessy. Next week's jackpot will be €3300.00.

CHURCH NEWS: Minister of the Word For Saturday November 7 is Anne McMahon and for Sunday November 8 is Liam Walshe.

Ministers of the Eucharist are Anne McMahon and Mairead Lynch for Saturday Nora Murphy and Ailish Griffin for Sunday.

CEMETERY PRAYERS: During November, especially, we remember those who have passed away and those who are laid to rest in our local graveyards. Prayers were held in Castletown Cemetery last Sunday November 1 and will be held at 12 noon in Kilcornan Cemetery on this coming Sunday November 8 after 11 am Mass.

Our annual Mass for deceased members of our Community will be in St. John the Baptist Church Kilcornan, at 8pm on Monday November 9. If you wish to have anyone remembered who passed away during the past year, please leave their name in the Sacristy.

BAGS OF LOVE: €2125.00 was raised on Sunday October 18 in the Community Centre for the annual Bags of Love charity.

Bernadette and Tony Hackett express their sincere thanks, to everyone for their kind donations, to the ladies who baked the lovely cakes, tarts, breads etc.., to the supplier of the fresh vegetables, guessing the weight of the giant turnip raised a tidy sum, to the helpers without whose hard work this fund raising event would not take place, to all who attended your continued support is greatly appreciated, a special thanks to the Community Council for the use of the Community Centre. Our aim each year is to provide basic food for families, over the Christmas period, in the local Township of Zweishle, South Africa.

SET DANCING: Set Dancing classes have resumed on Tuesday Evenings until Christmas from 8.30pm to 10.30pm in the Coach Inn Lounge and will cater for beginners and advanced. Only €5.

Limerick Historical Society Lecture: Limerick Historical Society continues its series of Winter lectures on Monday November 9. The title of the lecture is ‘The sinking of the RMS Lusitania' and will be given by Eoin McGarry.

Eoin McGarry is an Irish commercial diving expert who has dived on the wreck of the RMS Lusitania off the Old Head of Kinsale in Cork, more than anyone else since his first dive over 15 years ago. The lecture will commence at 8 p.m. in Room 301, Mary Immaculate College. Go to main reception and you will receive directions to Room 301. Admission is free and everybody is welcome.

BOOK LAUNCH: Séamus Ó'Súilleabháin's much awaited History of the Great Hunger in County Limerick will be launched in the Desmond Hall in the Square Newcastle West onFriday November 13 at 8pm.

Ruan O'Donnell from the History Department of the University of Limerick will do the launch and John Cussen Newcastle West will chair the proceedings. Killeedy Comhaltas Group will provide some traditional airs. Refreshments will be served after the launch at Cronin's Bar. Everybody is welcome.

WEST LIMERICK 102FM: There will be Afternoon Tea and Dance In aid of West Limerick 102fm in Fr. Casey’s Abbeyfeale on Sunday Nov 8 from 3 to 6pm. Music will be by Noel Cronin. Admission is €5. Tea and coffee will be served.
