LOTTO: The result of the Kilcornan Lotto for Saturday May 21. The Jackpot was not won. Lucky dips drawn were, Rachel Cregan, Blaine and Ann, Brigid Kelly and Eamon Kelly. Next week the Jackpot will be €4750.00.

 

CHURCH NEWS: Minister of the Word for Saturday  May 28 is Catherine Browne and for Sunday May 29 is Pat McMorrow.  Ministers of the Eucharist are Sheila O'Hara and Mairead Lynch for Saturday. Ita O'Shaughnessy and Nora Murphy for Sunday.


HOLY COMMUNION: Fr. Irwin will administer the Sacrament of Holy Communion to the children from our National School on this coming Saturday May 28 at 11am. We wish all the children receiving their First Communion, Jake Kelly, Ben O’Brien, Amy Foley, Meave Griffin, Jennifer Kelly, Sophie Meade, Sean Downes, Michael Finnerty, Cian Dore, Darragh Murphy, Mathew O’Rourke-Massey, Justin Bryce and Joe Adams all the blessings of the day, with a special thanks to the teachers and parents who have prepared them for the Sacrament.


SYMPATHY: Sympathy is extended to the family of Josie Walsh (née O'Connell) of Ballyshonick, and formerly of Ballyhahill , who died peacefully at Abbott Close Nursing Home, surrounded by her family  Survived and sadly missed by five daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren neighbours and friends.
She was laid to rest in Castletown Cemetery after Requiem Mass in St John the Baptist Church on Tuesday. May she rest in peace.

Kilcornan Tidy Towns Action Group: We would like to thank everyone  for their kind contributions towards our Tidy Towns Action Group Fund, collection is not completed yet, if we missed some people when we called we would have left details on where you can contribute if you would like to, it’s never too late.

A big thank you to the Pastoral Council and Graveyard Committee for their support by having the graveyard walls painted and maintaining the areas around the Church.

 

U15 SFAI ALL IRELAND INTERLEAGUE FINAL: Limerick Desmond U15s are the All Ireland SFAI U15 Champions of 2015/16.  The Limerick Desmond Team beat North Dublin 3 - 2.  This was a great achievement for this team as it is a first for the Desmond Schoolboy/girls league to bring an All Ireland home to West Limerick.  Congratulation to our local Soccer Club AK Utd who had four players on the team of Cathal Downes, Kevin Walsh, Padraig Hartigan and Garrett Sparling.


PATRICKSWELL FAMILY FUN DAY: Patrickswell Community Council and the Share A Dream Foundation are jointly hosting a Tennis Ball Race and Family Fun Day on Sunday May 29 at McSweeneys Farm. The Fun Day begins at 1pm, with the Tennis Ball Race beginning at 3pm. There will be many other attractions and activities at the event to make it a fun filled family day out including a BBQ, Mouse Race, Bucking Bronco, Children Amusements and Dog Show. All proceeds from the event will be shared between Patrickswell Community Council, which is building a new community centre in the village, and Share A Dream Foundation, who move heaven and earth to make a dream come true for a child who is terminally ill. Tennis ball tickets can be purchased for €5 each, with the wonderful prize of €1,000 for the first ball to cross the line. Tickets can be purchased by following the link on Patrickswell Community Council Facebook page, or from Patrickswell Resource Centre. We will be also hosting at Tractor Run on Saturday 28th starting at Mc Sweeney's Farm at 7pm with BBQ afterwards at the Dark Horse Pub to benefit both charities. CHILD PROTECTION TRAINING: West Limerick Resources is offering a workshop in relation to Child Protection for staff and volunteers of community run organizations.  Workshop 2 covers developing your organizations Child Protection Policy and takes place on Saturday May 28 from 10am-4.30pm in the Desmond Complex, Newcastle West.  To book contact Dearbhla on 069 62222 or email dconlon@wlr.ie.
 
INVASIVE SPECIES FIELDTRIP:  West Limerick Resources will be running a half day fieldtrip to see first-hand the impact of invasive species in West Limerick on Tuesday May 31st.  This will include training on identification but will look in more depth at the practical steps involved in appropriately maintaining areas affected by invasive species including site inspection, risk assessment, monitoring and correct removal techniques where appropriate.  Open to members of local tidy towns groups, CE schemes or others involved in environmental enhancement work including trails management.  Passengers can be collected from Newcastle West and Abbeyfeale.  To book a place contact Michelle on 069 61540 or email MMcCarthy3@wlr.ie.


MARIGOLD FESTIVAL: The Mid Western Region of Active Retirement Ireland are holding their 3rd Marigold Festival in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ennis Road, Limerick, on Tuesday  May 31, 2016.  The Marigold Festival is a celebration of Healthy and Active Ageing in the Mid West Region.  There are a wide range of activities going on throughout the day from speakers, exercises, demonstrations, fashion show, entertainment and lots of exhibition stands.  There will also be a raffle and spot prizes.  It is a day of fun for all ages.  The event is open to the general public as well as Active Retirement members.  Doors open at 10.00am and the day finishes at approximately 4.30pm.  Admission is free.  


HOST FAMILIES: Host families are required to host foreign students French/Spanish/Italian for 2 to 3 weeks during the summer. Payment for homestay is €255 p/w and for those attending summer school, in Ballyneety, for 6 days a week it is between €200 for one child and €330 per week for 2 children. SPORTS DAY: Kilcornan Community Games held their annual sports evening on Sunday evening  May 15 in glorious sunshine. We had a fine turnout and everyone enjoyed the evening. We would like to thank the parents who helped out on the evening, especially to Martin Corrigan, Garrett Kelly, Edel Dore, Jim McGrath and Dylan Corrigan, for the preparation of the field and the organisation of all the events. We would also like to thank the GAA  and soccer clubs for the use of their fields every year. 
The athletics county finals take place in Mungret on weekend of June 10, 11 and 12. All the children who won medals are eligible to take part in the county finals. Well done to all and best of luck for the county finals.
